Wawario
What does Wawario mean?
Wawario is a fan-made, deliberately grotesque parody of Nintendo's Wario that went viral in 2026 as part of memes revealing increasingly cursed 'doubles' of Mario characters.
Wawario used in a sentence
“The fake character-select screen kept scrolling until Wawario showed up, and the whole chat screamed.”
This example shows the term in context rather than treating the definition as a literal word-for-word substitution. Slang often depends on tone, audience, and the conversation around it.
How do you use Wawario?
Wawario is usually shown as a large, eyeless Wario lookalike with a missing tooth in an orange-and-green outfit. In the typical format, creators list the real Mario cast, then reveal stranger and stranger knockoffs, with Wawario and Wawaluigi as the punchline pair. He is not an official Nintendo character.
Where did Wawario come from?
Know Your Meme traces a shadowy Wario rival named Wawario to a YouTube animation from June 23, 2015. Sources differ on when the more familiar design took hold, placing it between 2021 and 2024, and the character went viral on X and TikTok in late August and September 2026 through fan art, animations, and songs.
