Gen Alpha uses shitposting for intentionally unserious memes, nonsense edits, ironic captions, and posts whose low effort is part of the joke. A successful shitpost may require deep awareness of a community’s references even when it looks meaningless to outsiders. The label does not excuse harassment, misinformation, hateful content, or flooding a space where people need serious information.
The term emerged in older forums and imageboard culture for low-value or disruptive posts. Over time it became a positive label for a deliberate comedic style, especially in meme pages, fandom accounts, private stories, and group chats.
